How to Modernise and Upgrade Your Kitchen

A total kitchen renovation may not be in the budget, or may seem like too much of a hassle. Luckily, there are a few ways you can change up your current kitchen to bring it into modern times. Easy, quick swaps can transform your existing kitchen, without having to tear it down to the bones.

Colour Those Cabinets

If your cabinetry is in good shape, then it may make sense to have them refinished instead of getting new ones. Choosing modern colours can make the biggest impact on updating your kitchen feel. Choose modern colours such as bright whites, greens, or navy blues to step your kitchen into newer times.

Swap Out Hardware

Updating your cabinet pulls and cabinet knobs can have a huge impact on your interior design. Changing to a contemporary finish such as matte black handles or gold knobs can quickly bring old cupboards up to date. As well, exploring new cabinet hardware styles like modern cabinet hardware or transitional pulls can be an easy swap to step up your design.

Visible cabinet hardware isn’t the only swap that you can make to upgrade your kitchen. Opt for soft close drawer slides and hinges to add a next level update to your cabinetry.

Flooring is Key

Updating your flooring can have one of the biggest impacts on the feel of your room. You could have an entire brand new kitchen, but if the floors are outdated, it will end up bringing down the whole space. Consider upgrading to vinyl plank flooring for not only a contemporary look, but also for durability. Scratch resistant flooring will save you from having to renovate again for quite some time.

Brighten the Room

Upgrading your current light fixtures, or adding in additional lighting is a great way to bring your kitchen into a new light. Ambience is a key aspect in interior design, as it can completely change the feeling of a room. With the use of a dimmer switch, your kitchen can also be transformed for dinner parties, or brightened up for cooking.

Time for Some Colour

On the same hand as brightening the room with lighting, some new paint can have a similar effect. Opting for a bright neutral can instantly modernise your space and help to change the tone and feel of your design.

Choosing the same paint colour as adjoining rooms can elongate the area, and create a cohesiveness between spaces. Easily flow your kitchen into your dining room, or living room and break the divide in space.

Open Those Shelves

Is all your cookware tucked out of sight? Consider installing some open shelves if you have the space and show off some of your more decorative pieces. Cook books, pasta jars, and fine china are all great decor pieces that will level up your kitchen design.
